Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship      adapted from Psalm 29      (Read responsively)

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name;

worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;

the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.

May the Lord give strength to His people!

May the Lord bless His people with peace!

* Affirmation of Faith        “The Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration       “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”     Red Book # 11

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Merciful God, in baptism You promise forgiveness and new life, making us part of the body of Christ. We confess that we remain preoccupied with ourselves, separated from sisters and brothers in Christ. We cling to destructive habits, hold grudges, ignore the lost, and are reluctant to welcome one another.  We allow the past to hold us hostage. In Your loving kindness, have mercy on us, and free us from sin. Remind us of the promises You make in baptism so that we may rise to new life, and live faithfully together in Your grace.  In Jesus’ name.   (time of silent, personal confession)  AMEN

Assurance of Pardon

    Leader    . . . Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel!

    ALL:             In Jesus Christ we are forgiven

* Responding with Praise               “Gloria Patri”                           Blue Book # 579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning; is now and ever shall be. World without end, Amen! Amen!

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  AMEN.
