Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship    adapted from Isaiah 12        (Read responsively)

Behold, God is our salvation;

We will trust, and will not be afraid;

For the Lord God is our strength and our song,

And He has become our salvation."

With joy we will draw water from the wells of salvation, saying

Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name,

Make known His deeds among the peoples,

Proclaim that His name is exalted.

Sing praises to the Lord, for He has done gloriously;

Let this be made known in all the earth.

Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,

For great in our midst is the Holy One of Israel.

* Affirmation of Faith        The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection

of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.                                                  *universal

MEDITATION

UNISON PRAYER

Holy Spirit, Powr divine, fill and serve this will of mine.  Boldly may I always live, bravely serve, and gladly give.  Father, You have done so many great things for us.  May Your Holy Spirit give us power to faithfully live out the Christian life so that others will see, and may come to know You and Your Son through our proclamation in word and deed.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

* Hymn of Adoration                     The First Noel                   Red Book # 265

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

Almighty God, Who sent a messenger to announce the coming appearance of Jesus, we confess that we have not listened to the counsel of Your Word. We have not searched for signs of Your love in the world, or trusted good news to be good. We have failed to praise Your Son's birth and refused His peace on earth. We have expected too little, and hoped for less. Forgive our doubts, our faithless fears, and renew in us all fine desires, so we may watch and wait, and once more hear the glad story of our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.   (time of silent, personal confession) AMEN
