ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

The Fifth Sunday in Lent                  April 07, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 9:9-14)

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

And those who know Your Name put their trust in you, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples His deeds!

For He who avenges blood is mindful of them; He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

Be gracious to us, O LORD! See our affliction from those who hate us, O you who lift us up from the gates of          death,

That we may recount all Your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion we may rejoice in Your salvation.

*Hymn #68                                                                “We Praise Thee, O God, Our Redeemer”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Profession of Faith                                   (from the Children’s Catechism)

   Who were our first parents?

                   Adam and Eve.

   How did God create man?

God created man, male and female, after his own image.

Of what were first parents made?

God made Adam's body out of the ground and Eve's body out of a rib from Adam

Sacrament of Baptism

*Hymn #347                                                             “And Can it Be?”

Corporate Prayer of Confession with Individual Prayers of Confession

Eternal and merciful God, You have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,

and You have set us on paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake; yet we have strayed from

   Your ways.

We confess we are more apathetic than active, callous than compassionate,

obstinate than obedient, legalistic than loving.

You know how often we are indifferent to Your love, neglect Your Word,

distrust Your goodness, and harbor hate for our neighbors.

   In Your deep mercy, forgive us; in Your abundant grace, renew us;

by Your Spirit, rekindle our love for You in seeing anew Your love for us in Christ.

It’s in His precious name we pray. Amen.

Responsive Assurance of Divine Pardon  (1 John 1:8,9)

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above,

Ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
