23rd  Sunday in Ordinary Time                                September 6, 2015

* * * Entering Into God’s Presence * * *

Welcome and Announcements

Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

* Call to Worship     adapted from Psalm 25       (Read responsively)

To You, O Lord, we lift up our souls.

O our God, in You we trust.

Let us not be put to shame;

Let not our enemies exult over us.

Indeed, none who wait for You shall be put to shame;

They shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make us to know Your ways, O Lord;

Teach us Your paths.

* Affirmation of Faith        The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  AMEN.                                                  *universal

* Prayer of Invocation

* Hymn of Adoration                 To God Be the Glory                       Red Book # 56

Invitation to Confession

Admitting Our Sin to God

God of all creation, we all like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way. We have followed the call of other shepherds. We have played the goat instead of living like sheep. We have grazed in the pastures of sin, injustice and greed. We are lost without our Shepherd. O, You, the Great Shepherd of the sheep, hear our confession and pleas for mercy. Come and find us, Your wan-dering sheep, and lead us back to Your true flock, and the safety of our appointed fold. We pray in the name of the Good Shepherd, Christ the Lord.  (time of silent, personal confession)  AMEN

The Lord be with you.  And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

. . . who forever sing to the glory of your name:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

. . . that our lives may proclaim the One crucified and risen.

According to his commandment: We remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory.
